How is the internet impacting relationships and human connections, especially in this time of social distancing amid COVID-19 concerns? The internet has played and is still playing a major role in the way that everyone and everything is staying connected. The effects of the pandemic has cost businesses to implement online services, educational institutions moved their curriculums to be online from home, and many businesses and organizations have their employees working remotely from their homes. I would say that the internet is a necessity to function during this time. Communicating with others has been through the use of the internet. I would say that one of the most important issues that everyone was following was the news; COVID-19 updates, political climate, environmental issues were a few of the biggest followings I would say of 2020. People found different ways to communicate and entertain as technology started to become more and more of a necessity. Applications like Zoom and TikTok became something that everyone used and had an increase in profits.

If it is one thing I learned during the pandemic, it is that internet technology has made a statement that we don’t have to lean on doing things traditionally. Yes, we were originally moving in a digital direction, but I strongly believe that this pandemic has moved this process up as we were all forced to turn to internet technologies to survive. A friend of mine last month had actually used his social media platforms to organize a Twin Cities homeless survival backpack fundraiser. Since then, he has raised $9,500. He got organizations and the community to help out in donating and volunteering. I thought it was such a cool and awesome project because everything was communicating through social media and the use of internet technologies. I think that this example is such a perfect example of how internet technologies can serve our needs and humanity right now.
